Homework 8-17

Playing football, basketball,Listening to Ipods, going to the movies ,and possibly going clubbing all night would be called "leisure time" in today's world. Reading a book, trying to development a law of science , or even to go out to the wilderness to study and examine animals is now not even thought to be "fun" for a normal human, unless, of course your what society has come to call the people who do enjoy these activity, "nerds/geeks". Unlike today, back in the period of time called the Scientific Revolution the "nerds/geeks" where considered the superstars of the time because back then science wasnt so demanding in society. Not just anyone had the time to really pay attention to science because either most were content with the idea of the Church that god created everything or they were to busy working to provide food for their family. So for the people who did have enough time to work in the science field and actually progress it was an huge achievement and where greatly praise, some ridiculed for going against the Church but most became famous.
Today athletes, musicians and actors are consider the superstars not really improving humanity but just there for the entertainment of society. Scientist and reseachers are greatly unappreciated now a days but are actually making a difference in the world everyday by reaching a little bit closer to a cure of a disease or anything that could help the global warming. These things that could keep us alive and the humanity race strong for years to come. However society is well unaware of the future and more focus on what can improve our daily lives. This I believe shows the decline of human development where we are much more concerned in how people can run up and down a field with a ball and people performing on stage with their music than with the people who work tirelessly to try to end cancer or aids. I feel society might be leading down the same path as the ancient Romans .
